1. What is the credibility of SRM in the field of Rural Development Management?
The School of Rural Management (SRM) is promoted by KRIBHCO and Managed by Gramin Vikas Trust. Both are two of the biggest players in the field; the former is the largest farmers’ cooperative in Asia while the latter is a premier national level NGO, engaged in rural development implementation & management for the last 16 years.

Krishak Bharti co-operative (KRIBHCO) has been providing agriculture in-put supports to the farmers all across the India since 1985. In 1999, it established and supported Gramin Vikas Trust (GVT) that has taken up the mantle of speeding developmental interventions in India since then. In 2006, GVT established National Livelihood Resources Institute (NLRI) in Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, a centre for excellence, for building capacities of rural development functionaries.

The NLRI, in turn, initiated the School of Rural Management 2013, whose proposal to start a post graduate diploma program catering to the needs and aspirations of rural youth in particular was approved by the AICTE in 2014. Its USP is the contemporary freshness it offers, with the backing of two very credible parent organizations.

2. SRM is very recently established; why do we join SRM?
As mentioned above, the SRM is promoted by KRIBHCO and Managed by Gramin Vikas Trust. Its students will get associated with two popular and established brand of development field. Besides, it is offering an AICTE approved two year post graduate diploma program which is equivalent to a MBA degree of any University.

3. What are the eligibility criteria for joining the Post Graduate Diploma in Rural Planning & Management?
Anyone with a graduate degree from a recognized university within India or abroad, with an aggregate of 50% marks in any discipline, can apply. Candidates with valid MAT scores will have an added advantage. The institute abides by the reservation policy of the government of India.

4. How is the program offered by SRM different from others in the market?
The post graduate program is strikingly different from other similar offers in the market because it comes with a specialization in Rural Enterprises Management and Entrepreneurship. Agriculture management is no longer the only core issue of rural development. It is gradually being replaced by the business and economic aspirations of rural communities, vying for their own advantage in the global market. The PG program is framed to be in tune with this phenomenon. There will be five electives in the two year program specially designed to expose the students to the realm of rural enterprise development. Moreover, there are two management training components of one month each that put them into the real world of functional dynamics of rural enterprises. .

5. What is the design of the program?
The Diploma comprises of four semesters including two, month-long management traineeship segments (MTSs) and five elective courses. The entire course offers 135 credit hours; divided into 96 credit hours for in-house learning and 39 credit hours for field based learning.

6. What is the fee-structure for the entire program?
The program offers a very reasonable fee structure, when compared to other similar programs available in the market. The total academic fee of the program is Rs. 2.2 Lakh. These includes a refundable caution money deposit of Rs. 15,000. 00.

7. What are the future prospective and placement opportunities after this course?
There are very high prospects for the Diploma holders getting in-house placements, both in the GVT and KRIBHCO. Other lucrative options are the central and state governments, NGOs, International funding organizations, CSRs etc with which KRIBHCO and GVT is associated.

8. What are the Faculty resources at the SRM?
The school boasts of a core group of faculty members whose experience in the field of rural development management ranges from three to thirty five years. They hail from various backgrounds such as rural development management, strategic management, agriculture science, agri-business management, GIS, social science, natural resource management, water & soil engineering, human resource management, geography, environmental science, horticulture & Forestry and others. The school also has access to a large pool of external experts and resource persons belonging to well known business schools, development organizations and civil society institutions. The school also banks on KRIBHCO and GVT’s own experts and professionals who are already engaged in rural development initiatives and project implementations and management across India.

9. What is the quality of infrastructure available in the campus?
The SRM, which is located in the NLRI campus, have infrastructure of its own in the form of a state of art building which has recently become, operational and will have all the facilities befitting an institute of higher learning by the time of new session begins in July-2015. The SRM is yet to build hostel facilities on the campus but will facilitate arrangements to accommodate students in reasonably good facility in Ratlam and will make transport facility available at very reasonable cost. The students will have an option to make their own arrangements in Ratlam or en route to the Institute.

10. Why you are promoting rural entrepreneurship development?
Rural enterprises such as co-operatives, SHG federations, producers’ companies and many other forms of community business collectives are dominating the rural landscape. These institutes require managerial expertise and the present PG program purports to fill this critical gap by producing managers that are equal to this task.

The School will also proactively facilitate those students who are keen to explore entrepreneurial options on their own and will whole heartedly support those ventures that appear promising.
